Why NASCAR?

I’m watching NASCAR right now and it’s got me thinking. The only reason I’m really watching it is because I’m waiting to see a crash, is this normal?? I know everyone seems to hate Kurt Busch, and I’m hoping he does something stupid so I can see it happen.

Normally I hate NASCAR because it’s just so boring; all they do it make left turns in a circle!!! (Now rally car, that’s another story) But what is it about NASCAR that draws people to it? Do they all watch it for the crashes too??

Telling it like it is, my man!

NASCAR is absolutely pointless, ridiculous junks. It's merely an event ... nay, excuse - to party and indulge (not that there's anything wrong with that!). The 'sport' aspect is missing with all the rigging, lack of driving skill (except nerves of steel and a stiff right arm to keep turning left) and unnecessary yellow flagging.

But yet, it remains the single most popular (viewed) sporting evet in North America. Amazing!

Okay, you say driving around in a circle has no point. But in football, everyone is fighting over a ball... what's the point in that? And NASCAR drivers not needing skill? Wow, I know I couldn't get in a car and drive almost 200 miles an hour, for about four hours... without crashing. But you probably could right?

I accept your criticism. But compare NASCAR to Rally Car, there is a real skill involved there beyond driving really fast. There is variable speed, breakneck turns and real hazards.

You say you couldn't drive 200MPH, but what if it was a straight shot, no turns? You could definitely do it as long as your nerves will allow it. What makes this any different? Once you get practice at making those turns at 100, 120, 140, 160, 180, 200 you understand how and when to turn and as long as you do that turn the same way over and over you will be fine.

NASCAR seems to test the drivers physical endurance, metal sharpness and overall knowledge of the car (knowing when to pit and change this or that). But where is the excitement for us? Its like watching an experiment waiting for someone slip up. Every turn is the same, for 4 hours!!

But everyone has their cup of tea, its just not mine, and not only how many others agree, but also how many are really just looking for someone to fail.

Some people just watch Hockey for the fights, but I doubt anyone really watches soccor or football for the broken bones?
